YEARS 3–6
OC & Selective Preparation
For students ready for the next academic challenge.
Strong foundations first. Strategic preparation when the child is ready.
Our OC & Selective programs are designed for students who are ready for more advanced academic learning. We develop higher-level English, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills and exam confidence through structured, ability-based preparation.

Is OC & Selective Preparation Right for Every Child?
Not every child needs to start intensive exam preparation at the same time.
We look at each student’s current English, Maths, reasoning skills, learning habits and readiness before recommending an OC or Selective pathway. For some students, structured exam preparation is the right next step. For others, continuing to build strong foundations may lead to better long-term progress.
Ready for Structured Preparation
Strong Core Skills
A solid foundation in English and Maths.
Higher-Level Reasoning
Ready to tackle unfamiliar, multi-step and more challenging problems.
Learning Readiness
Able to work with increasing independence, focus and academic challenge.
Exam Preparation
Begin structured question practice, timing and strategy when appropriate.
Still Building Foundations
Strengthen English & Maths
Continue developing reading, writing, numeracy and core academic skills.
Build Reasoning Gradually
Develop thinking and problem-solving ability without rushing into intensive test practice.
Grow Confidence & Independence
Give students more time to become secure, consistent and ready for greater challenge.
Review Progress Over Time
Move into an OC or Selective pathway when their skills and readiness support it.
The goal is not to start exam preparation as early as possible — it is to start at the right time for the child.
What We Prepare For
Advanced English
Reading comprehension, vocabulary, inference, verbal reasoning and higher-level language skills.
Thinking Skills
Develop logic, deduction, pattern recognition, spatial reasoning and complex problem-solving.
Mathematical Reasoning
Apply mathematical knowledge to unfamiliar, multi-step and challenging problems.
Exam Strategy & Timing
Build accuracy, pacing, question selection and confidence under timed conditions.
Structured Preparation, Built Over Time
Challenge increases as skills, accuracy and confidence grow.
Build Accuracy & Technique
Strengthen core techniques and learn how to approach each question type with confidence.
Increase Complexity
Progress to unfamiliar, multi-step and higher-level questions that require deeper reasoning.
Perform Under Timed Conditions
Develop pacing, question selection, accuracy and decision-making under timed conditions.
Students progress when they are ready — not simply because a new term or school year begins.
Every Student Starts With an Assessment
The right OC or Selective pathway starts with understanding the student.
Before joining an OC or Selective program, each student completes a complimentary assessment with our academic team. We look at their English, Maths, reasoning skills, learning habits and readiness so we can recommend the most suitable pathway and starting point.
Assess Current Readiness
Understand the student’s current academic skills, reasoning ability and learning readiness.
Recommend the Right Pathway
Determine whether structured OC or Selective preparation is appropriate now, or whether stronger foundations should come first.
Plan the Next Steps
Give families a clear recommendation for what to focus on and how the student should progress.
